Refurbished to accommodate the essential facilities of a grooming school, Kent Dog Grooming Academy Ltd has a reception area, open plan grooming workshop and bathing areas.
The grooming area is both large and well lit and equipped with four hydraulic or electric adjustable tables, each fitted with TPC System Frames, which assist students to ensure the safety of the animals whilst on the tables. For bathing and drying the centre is equipped with modern, waist-high stainless steel baths (fitted with power-shower heads) power blasters, four stand driers and a stainless steel state-of-the-art fully programmed drying cabinet.

A one day course specially designed for pet owners to learn to groom their own breed. This will enable owners to leave with the confidence to groom their pets in the comfort of their own home.
You will need to bring your dog along to work on.
You will cover the basics of dog grooming on your own dog, areas included are washing, drying and brushing your dog, basic clipping, use of scissors, nail clipping, ear care and how to carry out a 5 star visual health check.
Owners will have the opportunity to cover all above aspects of dog grooming however what they aren’t capable of doing they will be able to watch and observe a professional do the rest.
- You will leave at the end of they day with a personalised list of recommended products to purchase and a nicely groomed dog.

A one day Introduction to Dog Grooming enabling students to get a feel for the work and a greater understanding of grooming before entering into a commitment. For students, although the limitation of just one-day imposes a restriction on the depth of tuition, they will carry out enough practical work, under professional instruction, to get a fair idea of the involvement needed to complete level 2 & 3 Dog Grooming courses.
Students will have hands on experience with preparing dogs to be groomed including washing, drying and brushing. Students will observe other aspects of dog grooming such as clipping, nail clipping, ear care and visual health checks. Students will have the opportunity to ask questions.

- A certificate of attendance will be issued on completion

Level 2 & 3 City & Guilds Dog Grooming
Level 2 City & Guilds

This course is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in becoming a dog grooming assistant and for established groomers seeking to update their knowledge and techniques. This course provides basic and general knowledge and offers the student a wide range of practical experience with a variety of breeds. Students may want to supply themselves with a "personal equipment pack", which they will use throughout the course. All the items in the personal equipment pack can be purchased from a recommended supplier. All other equipment is available to use in the grooming workshop.
Students will cover the following topics:
- Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing for grooming
- Bathe and clean dogs
- Control and restrain dogs
- Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
- Basic trimming of dogs coat
- Carry out reception duties
- Handle payments from clients
- Safely move animals between locations
- Basic trimming of dogs coat
Students will need to complete 24 days recorded and signed tuition, a practical exam and an online exam to receive their Level 2 City & Guides Qualification (All tuition and exams will be in house).
Students may want to supply themselves with a ‘Personal Equipment Pack’ including:
- 4 pairs of quality scissors (1 x Small bullnose, 1 x 6 inch straight, 1 x single sided thinners, 1 x 6 inch curved)

- Soft slicker brush
- Greyhound comb

OCN Level 3 Diploma in Dog Grooming

The OCN level 3 dog grooming diploma qualification has been designed specifically for those looking to become professional dog groomer or those whom already groom dogs but do not currently hold a nationally recognised qualification. For experienced groomers we can offer a fast track plan to gaining the qualification without having to undertake a full training course. The Open College Network Level 3 is rated by OFQUAL as the City and Guilds Level 3 Diploma, but it is a much more practically based course. It is equivalent in status to any other level 3 or diploma in dog grooming currently or previously available (i.e. a level 3 is a level 3).
When you sign up to Animal Magic Kent Dog Grooming Academy Ltd you will be given an individual registration number. Students have 12 months from the date of registration to complete the OCN Diploma in dog grooming. The course runs over 25 days and students will need to provide evidence of grooming ten different dogs. Eight of these will be through photographic evidence and two will be conducted under independent examination.
Students will complete the following:
- Welcome, receive and care for customers
- Assess, plan and record dog grooming work
- Health checking by a dog groomer
- Carry out styling and finishing of a dog
- Promote and maintain the health and well-being of animals
- Canine first aid
What the OCN Qualification will involve:
- 25 days attendance, (10am - 3pm / 4pm)
- Exam fees including record of assessment learner journal and manual
- 1 day Advanced companion Animal CPR and first aid for pet care professionals certificate
- Catalogue evidence for the entire bathing and grooming process for 10 different breeds including 15 different styles (different coat types demonstrate a variety of head, tail, feet and body styles).
- To complete the written questions.
